A handful of our original Hood members at our very first event. Today, The Hood is a growing community of women from beginners with phones to professional photographers—and we're only just getting started.
Welcome to The Shutter Sisterhood
The Shutter Sisterhood—or 'The Hood' as we like to call it (because it sounds far more gangster)—is a welcoming community for women who love capturing life's moments, making new friends and enjoying great adventures together.
Based in Port Macquarie on the Mid North Coast of NSW Australia, we're home to complete beginners using phones, women dusting off old cameras, enthusiastic hobby photographers and professionals who simply enjoy being around like-minded women.
While photography brings us together, The Hood has become about so much more. It's about sharing a coffee around a long table, exploring beautiful places, laughing until someone snorts (usually me!), learning something new, travelling together and building genuine friendships.
Many of our members join solo, and find a whole new friendship group. That's exactly what makes The Hood so special.
Whether you're joining us for a photography workshop, a coffee catch-up, a day trip, a long lunch, a weekend away or one of our future Australian or international adventures (totally manifesting here), you'll always be welcomed.

Meet Your Organiser of Questionable Adventures
Hi, I'm Kris (Kristen Shaw Photography) — professional photographer, travel lover, organiser of adventures and founder of The Shutter Sisterhood.
After almost 20 years behind the camera, I've learnt that photography is what brings women together, but friendship is what keeps us coming back. I love discovering new places, planning road trips, chasing beautiful light and finding the best local food along the way.
If you love photography, good food, travel, meeting like-minded women and having a laugh, I think you'll feel right at home in The Hood.
