Shutter Sister’s Mini Workshop| Capturing Movement in Street Photography

Saturday 15 August | 10am - 12pm

Port Macquarie CBD

$49

The August Shutter Sisterhood theme is movement (whoops cats out of the bag), so let's get out from behind our screens and actually photograph some! Join Kris from Kristen Shaw Photography and The Shutter Sisters (sounds like a funky 80’s band) for a fun morning wandering the streets of Port Macquarie freezing action, blurring movement, making creative street photography images and hanging out with likeminded women who love photography.

If you're shooting on Auto, Kris will show you how to use Shutter Speed Priority Mode (without making your brain hurt).  If you've completed Kris's Get Off Auto course, this is the perfect refresher with loads of hands-on practice and very little sitting around listening to Kris waffle. All experience levels welcome to come along and have fun. As always this is all about connecting with other likeminded women. Kris is an open book and happy to answer any questions you have.

Best suited to DSLR and mirrorless cameras, although phone photographers welcome.

Bring:

  • Camera
  • Charged battery
  • Memory card
  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • A willingness to create with fellow shutterbugs

If it's raining, we'll reschedule. If it's sunny, we'll have a great time. And if anyone is keen afterwards, we'll grab a coffee (or vino) and or lunch (at your own expense).

Cost: $49

Women's Travel Photography Workshop Weekend | Newcastle NSW | 23–25 October 2026

Grab your camera and join Kris from Kristen Shaw Photography and The Shutter Sisterhood for a fun-filled women's photography workshop weekend in Newcastle. Over three days and two nights we'll do a deep dive into travel photography, street photography and visual storytelling, all while exploring Newcastle's colourful laneways, gorgeous historic buildings, ocean baths, street art and, of course, getting our fix of bloody amazing food. We'll also head out on a night photography adventure where we'll visit hidden bars and some of Newcastle's best establishments (some may say it's a pub crawl...).

Designed for all experience levels, this weekend is all about escaping Port Macquarie and the Mid North Coast for a few days, doing something for ourselves and having uninterrupted time to play with our cameras in a relaxed, supportive environment. Expect new photography skills, incredible food, plenty of laughs, new friendships and a camera full of images you're actually proud of.

This weekend is best suited to women who own a camera, however beginners are absolutely welcome. Not sure what camera to buy or bring? Reach out to Kris or read her blog post, What Camera Should I Buy?

Kris' promises to make learning fun with small hands on photography courses in Port Macquarie. The photography workshops are an elevated experience for women to genuinely have fun and feel nurtured in a supportive learning environment. No high school classroom vibes here just women catching up around a long table (thats beautifully decorated of course!). These women's only photography classes are deliberately kept small and do sell out.

Testimonials

“Kris is a manual mode teacher extraordinaire. I’ve had DSLR and mirrorless cameras for 15 years and always wanted to properly learn how to shoot in manual mode. Kris made the whole experience feel approachable, supportive, and incredibly beginner-friendly.

It was also so lovely connecting with a group of women and feeling completely comfortable throughout the workshop. I now feel confident using my camera to its full potential...I couldn’t recommend Kris’ “Get Off Auto” workshops more highly!”

We also have a private Facebook group  The Shutter Sisterhood — a welcoming online community for women who share a passion for photography. Inside the group, I share workshop updates, inspiration, group catch up event details and create space for connection with like-minded women who love photography.

It’s a place to share your images, learn from each other, support one another, and connect. The strength of this community comes from being brave, getting out of your comfort zone and showing up. If you’re looking for creative connection, encouragement, and a group of supportive women, you’ll feel right at home here. Also if any trolls come knocking at our doors they will be kicked out of the private Facebook group quicker than a rat up a drainpipe!

I'm looking forward to meeting our newest Shutter Sister. Can't wait to see you shine in this community. Kris x
